Audi released its new RS4 Avant, the highest performing car in its A4 range at the Frankfurt Motor Show. With an engine from the new RS5, it’s a recipe for some serious fun, and your dog can come too.
Audi’s first RS4 was only built in Avant style, and it seems Audi is going back to its roots, it’s only the B7 model that came with a sedan and cabriolet versions. The new Audi RS4 Avant trades in its old 4.2-litre naturally aspirated V8 for a downsized 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 making 331kW’s and 600Nm of torque. Thanks to Audi’s Quattro all-wheel-drive the station wagon will hit 100 km/h from standstill in 4.1 seconds and will go on to do a top speed of 283 km/h with the optional RS Dynamic package. Just like the RS5, it comes with an eight-speed automatic gearbox and optional rear differential. Not only is it lighter than its predecessor but 17% more fuel-efficient.
The new RS4 Avant is more taught and looks more aggressive than your ordinary A4, for example, the wheel arches at the front and rear are 300mm wider than your normal A4 and rides 7mm lower than your normal A4, and with the rear fitted with some oval gazoom exhaust pipes. And would you look at that colour, Nogaro Blue!
In the inside, it features Audi’s new virtual cockpit, a set of sports seats to prevent you from falling out your seat while driving on some mountain passes after the school run, some illuminated RS badges on the door sills and a beautiful flat-bottom steering wheel.
High-performance station wagons like these tick so many boxes: They’re fast, they look pretty awesome, their practical in a sense that you can chuck your dog, groceries, golf clubs and so many other things that’ll fit and without worrying about what you left behind for a long holiday trip because they have so much space!
